  • Started studying tap dancing at 6-years-old then auditioned or a role in "The Optomist" at the Casino de Paris Theater in New York City at 16-years-old 
  • Rejected her first contract from MGM from being disenchanted with the process when she played a bit part in "George White's 1935 Scandal" and was wrongly made up to look Egyptian when there was a mix-up in the makeup department
  • Retired in 1944 to raise her son
  • Was slated for an acting role in "Broadway Melody of 1936" (1935) and tried dismissing herself from the film through demanding both role and an unreasonably high salary. MGM ended up meeting her terms. 
  • Intimidated Fred Astaire at first
