In Max Reinhardt's first and only film production of Shakespeare's immortal comedy, strange and magical things happen in Athens. Olivia de Havilland stars in her premiere role as Hermia.



While on a fishing vacation in Ruritania, Englishman Rudolf Rassendyll (Ronald Colman) comes across a distant relative, the King-to-be Rudolf V (also Colman) who ends up drugged by his power hungry half brother (Raymond Massey). Rudolf finds himself roped in by the King-to-be's right hand men in stopping the conspiracy while falling in love with the King-to-be's intended.
