Douglas McPhail may have had smaller eyes and cherubic features, but his voice was a character itself. A deep, rich baritone, which might have dragged for some people with different tastes, his voice was a universe within itself. That voice had the opportunity to court Judy Garland (Little Nellie Kelly) and Virginia Weidler (Born to Sing) as well as serving as accompaniment to the great visual of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers dancing.
